Kara Newland, MS, LPC, NCC
I started Butterfly Wings Counseling in 2021 because of my passion for helping people who have experienced trauma. My journey into the world of mental health began with my own voyage through grief and resilience several years ago, a journey that led to some amazing discoveries of myself. Along the way I received support from many people: family members, friends, mentors, teachers, coworkers, and therapists, every one of whom helped me heal.
I grew up in Minnesota and have lived in Arizona for over 30 years. My husband and I raised twin sons whom we see often, although they both found their way out of Arizona and landed in Colorado over the past few years. We are excited about their futures and our growing family since they each became engaged to wonderful young women and plan to be married in the next year or so. Our “empty nest” years have been filled with quality time with our two dogs, travel, lots of reading, plus a ten-month experience as hosts for a delightful exchange student from Italy in 2023-2024. My life prior to becoming a licensed counselor spanned several careers, jobs, and experiences. I spent several years in the business world, taught English for grades 7-12, mentored and tutored young people in various youth programs, and of course, my most important job has been as a mother. My first several years as a mental health therapist were spent working with adult and child survivors of domestic abuse. I was honored to play a part in the healing process and witness the resilience of many remarkable people. All these experiences have provided the basis of who I am as a therapist. I believe in the process of emotional growth and empowerment. My goal is to be someone who listens without judgment, who gently guides without demands, and who demonstrates unwavering compassion. |
